There's an old expression that goes "it takes a lot of beer to make good wine." Tongue in cheek, McPherson added "a six pack goes into every case we make."
Danza’s winemaker is Mike Tangley who has been at Danza for more than two years and is producing some exceptional wines. He says, “I am looking to create wines that cannot be produced anywhere else and will be memorable to our customers.” Danza sits on 35 lush acres with eight of those acres full of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc grapes in Temecula.
As a final course, we were treated to a coconut macaroon torte served with a luscious white chocolate Grand Mariner crème. (Now you must be salivating.) What could make this dish more wonderful? A bright ruby Chocolate Strawberry wine that was full of fruit and strawberry aromas, yet on the palate had a mild chocolate taste that was only slightly sweet and did not overpower the delicious dessert
Some wineries showed off their creative side with works of art created from cork. Once again, I made it my mission to visit all 34 participating wineries and the question I was asked most was 'what was the best?'
Much to my surprise, Jeri and Dawn decided they had to show their Midwest stuff and ride the bull. (Could this decision have been colored by a day of wine drinking?)
There are also lots of bunnies and lizards at Oak Mountain. It’s a dog’s paradise. I must say their lizards are too fast for me and their bunnies disappear as soon as I approach. (It must be those darn jingling bells around my neck that warn them.) But I will not give up.
He got into the wine business because "insanity runs in my family. The wine business is one of those things that will push you to drink." But being a little crazy helps, he believes.
Phil likes making a wine that he will enjoying drinking, and thinks that winemakers who cater to their clientele do them a disservice. A good gauge of how well he is making wine is that he drinks a lot more of his own wine now than he used to.
My recollection gets a little hazy here as I allow myself to thoroughly relax and melt into the experience. I did manage to ascertain that the Vino Therapy facial costs $75.00. It is an ideal treat for anyone after a day of Temecula vineyard touring and tasting.
