The Family Winemakers of California tasting is one of the events I most look forward to each year. 2014 brought a twist: the event’s venue changed from Del Mar to Pasadena. The city’s Convention Center proved to be an ideal setting with ample parking across the street and plenty of room for the hundreds in attendance. This event sings to me because I’m such a huge advocate of supporting locally owned independent businesses.
Wineries from up and down the state, from Napa to Mendocino County to Temecula to Santa Barbara, Paso Robles and more all poured their finest. I looked forward to trying the new 2012 Pinot from Frost Watch in Sonoma County, after being blown away two years ago with a barrel sample of the 2010 vintage. The 2012 was also extremely impressive. It was also a treat to meet and visit with Monty Paulsen, son of the late Pat Paulsen, who is carrying on his dad’s legacy as winemaker and promoter for Pat Paulsen Vineyards.
Family Winemakers will be pouring August 17 in the Bay Area at the San Mateo Event Hall.
