If you’ve driven along De Portola Road in Temecula, you may have seen the sign; a large red “I” against a black background. On closer examination you’ll see the words Estate d’Iacobelli. These are the vineyards Michigan natives Ron and Lisa Iacobelli purchased in 1998. Until now you haven’t been able to taste the fruits of their labors. The 15 acre parcel in Fallbrook they purchased in 2013 is now home to the Estate d’Iacobelli tasting room and guest house. Only 15 minutes from Temecula, give or take, the property features majestic panoramic views. Guests can sit poolside soaking in the view and stay in the two-bedroom main house or two-bedroom casita. The main house features a state-of-the-art kitchen where guests can cook their own food or have a caterer come in.
The tasting room is a cozy, converted garage, complete with barrels and a wooden bar. Sascha La Russo is the tasting room manager and a classically trained opera singer. You never know when she might break into song. Visitors can taste all six of Estate d’Iacobelli’s offerings for $10. Current offerings are 2011 Viognier, 2010 Late Harvest Viognier Sticky Fingers, 2010 Sangiovese, 2009 and 2010 Rodolfo Red, a blend of Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese as well as 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. I especially enjoyed the Sangiovese and 2009 Rodolfo Red.
Estate d’Iacobelli is located at 2175 Tecalote Drive in Fallbrook, just above Pala Mesa. Call for hours and directions, (760) 723-0616.
