The clock keeps ticking faster! A few things came to my attention at the last minute that I wanted to share with you. The first one puts a smile on my face because when you buy it, you’re giving back to those who’ve given us so very much. Heroic Red and Valiant White wines from Leer Vineyards helps combat wounded warriors and their spouses get tax mortgage-free homes. $1.50 from each bottle sold goes to the homes4woundedheroes and homes4goldstars programs. Four homes have already been awarded this year. The white is a slightly effervescent Moscato while the red is a blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. I can’t think of a more noble cause to donate to while enjoying good wine in the bargain.
I also just tried Founders Reserve Port from Sandeman and it’s exquisite. Aged for five years from a selection of their best barrels, it’s amazingly smooth with notes of leather and dark cherry, it’s 20% alcohol but doesn’t feel that hot. At about $18, why not pick up a few bottles for your worthy Port loving friends?
